By Thompson ABISOLA

The Chief Executive Officer, Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), Mr Rahul Singh, said the company had installed no fewer than 60,000 prepaid meters in compliance with the directive of the Federal Government.

Singh disclosed this on Tuesday in Kano at a one-day zonal Interactive session for electricity consumers with the ad-hoc committee of the House of Representatives on Excessive Electricity charges.

He said the company had installed three-phase meters for 50 to 60 per cent of customers with high consumption in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states.

He said his company would continue to comply with the regulations of the National Electricity Regulations Commission (NERC) to serve customers better.

In his opening remarks, Hon. Ajibola Famurewa, the Chairman of the adhoc committee on excessive electricity charges, said the committee was committed to checking excessive electricity tariffs in the six geopolitical zones.

Also, Mr Olisa Chukuwuemeka, the representative of NERC at the session, said the Commission would do its best to serve all stakeholders in the industry.

He said the Commission would soon ensure prompt notification to customers about power outage via text messages in Kano and Kaduna states.

TBI Africa reports that all electricity consumers at the event spoke on issues surrounding over billing, debt settlement and inconsistent power supply.
