Buhari’s integrity responsible for peaceful convention– Lawmaker

By Olamilekan FAWAS

Rep. Umar Bago (APC Niger State) said on Wednesday that President Mohammadu Buhari’s track record of integrity contributed to conducting a peaceful and credible national convention of the All Progressives Congress.

Bago said this in Minna, observing that Buhari remained the party’s best candidate for the party’s presidential election in 2019.

He said the task ahead was for the new leadership of the party to set in motion political mechanisms that would continue to promote the lofty ideals of the party, especially at the grassroots.

“I strongly advocate that the party should bring on board season and committed progressives who are capable hands and understand the ideal of change mantra which the party stands for during its campaign periods,” he said.

He said it was only by so doing that eligible electorate would be mobilised to cast their votes to all the party candidates in general elections.

Bago said the party came out stronger after its convention because of maturity demonstrated by the party founding fathers.

”President Buhari has proved beyond reasonable doubt to be honest, committed progressive in meeting the desire needs of Nigerians irrespective of political party differences,” he said.

The lawmaker lauded Buhari for his commitment in the fight against corruption, cattle rustling, militancy and Boko Haram insurgency.

He also called on politicians to play responsible politics and preach the principles of tolerance and understanding to ensure free, fair and credible elections.
