AFCSC concludes Exercise Sea Lion, charges personnel on professionalism

By Giwa SHILE

The Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) on Friday concluded an indoor exercise for students of Senior Course 40 tagged: “Exercise Sea Lion” at Jaji, Kaduna State.

Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies, AFCSC, Rear Admiral Ifeola Mohammed, represented the Commandant, AVM LawalShittu, at the event.

Mohammed said the exercise was aimed at teaching the students to plan and execute joint and combined operations as well as how to make sound command and control decisions under pressure.

“This training is done periodically so that when they eventually graduate from AFCSC they will have sufficient capacity to go into the field and implement what they learnt to protect and defend the country,” said Mohammed.

He added that the exercise would avail the students the opportunity to further develop skills in writing estimates, delivery of mission directives and planning guidance.

He urged the students to sustain the right attitude of working under pressure, which they exhibited during the exercise because it would be required in the field.

The commandant also urged the students to pay attention to the points raised and observations made during the critique session as they would enhance their knowledge.

“These will certainly enhance your knowledge of the manoeuvring approach to warfare and its application in combined and joint operations. This knowledge is extremely useful as the Armed Forces of Nigeria continues, along with our allies, to curb the myriad of asymmetric threats in the region, particularly those posed by the Boko Haram terrorists,” he noted.

TBI Africa reports that Exercise Sea Lion is a major exercise conducted by the AFCSC for officers of the rank of Major and its equivalent in the Nigerian Air Force and Navy.

The exercise includes personnel from the international allies, ministries, departments and agencies.
