Videos on alleged search of Daura`s residence, office fake – DSS

By Aliyu DANLADI

The Department of State Services (DSS) said on Monday that the videos in circulation on the alleged recovery of items from the house of sacked Director-General Lawal Duara by operatives of the service were fake.

A statement issued by an operative of the service, Mr Tony Opuiyo, in Abuja, said the items were non-existent.

According to the Opuiyo, the items allegedly recovered included N21 billion cash, 400 assorted and sophisticated small arms and light weapons/rifles and thousands of Permanent Voters Card (PVCs) belonging to Niger Republic immigrants.

“The service wishes to inform the public that these videos are false and should be disregarded.

“So far, no such recovery operations have been undertaken by the EFCC or any other security agency at DSS office or residences of the former Director-General.

“In another video also in circulation, some persons believed to be personnel of a security outfit were seen forcing open safes stocked with money.

“The security operatives were said to be executing a recovery operation at the Katsina home of the former DSS boss.”

Opuiyo said different interests had continued to give varied accounts of last week’s incident at the National Assembly.

He said the Presidency had pledged to carry out a detailed investigation regarding the blockade of the National Assembly.

Opuiyo advised members of the public to exercise restraint and desist from spreading fake news that could further cause breach of peace and as well preempt the outcome of investigations.

It would be recalled that Daura was sacked by acting President Yemi Osinbajo for ordering the unauthorised blockade of the National Assembly.
