23 dead in bus accident in Ecuador

No fewer than 23 people died in a bus accident in Ecuador on Tuesday.

Another 14 people were injured in the morning incident on a country road 40 kilometres east of Quito, according to the fire department.

The bus collided with a small lorry and tipped over, a fire department spokesperson said. The bus belonged to a Colombian transport company, according to El Universo newspaper.

The majority of the victims are Colombians and Venezuelans, the head of the emergency service COE, Christian Rivera, told broadcaster Ecuador
