It’s not time to jubilate, Lagos Speaker tells ticket winners

By Aliyu DANLADI

The Speaker of  Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Mudashiru Obasa, on Monday said it was not yet time for lawmakers who won tickets to seek reelection on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to jubilate.

Obasa, who made the appeal when the House resumed plenary after a 13-week recess, said the tickets called for more services to the people.

The speaker, while reacting to the just-concluded APC primaries in the state, urged the members to return to their respective constituencies to galvanise support for the ruling party.

“This is not the time to jubilate, because it is not yet Uhuru for us since we are going to face general elections.

“This is not time to celebrate, but rather, you should go back and engage your constituents. Your return ticket is not for meal, but call for service,” Obasa told the lawmakers.

He commended the National Leader of APC, Sen. Bola Tinubu and party executive members in the state for the success of the primaries.

The lawmakers took turns to call on the House to review reports of the past stakeholders meetings held simultaneously in all the 40 constituencies.

The House unanimously agreed that the past reports submitted to the executive must be reviewed, while that of the last stakeholders meeting should be sent to Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode for inclusion in the 2019 budget.

Lawmakers also took turns to hail Tinubu and party executives for adopting direct primaries and for the support given to them by the Speaker during the exercise.

They, however, called on the executive to complete all the road projects in their various constituencies.

Meanwhile, the House after a voice vote conducted by Obasa, passed a bill for a law to amend the Lagos State Health Scheme Law, 2018 and for Connected Purposes.

The speaker directed the Clerk of the House, Mr Azeez Sanni, to forward a clean copy of the bill to the governor for his assent.

The House adjourned sitting till Tuesday.
