Afreximbank urges media practitioners on innovative news reportage

By Thompson ABISOLA

The African Export -Import Bank(Afreximbank) on Thursday urged media practitioners on the continent to adopt innovative ways of news reportage.

Afreximbank’s Director and Global Head,  Communications and Events Management, Mr Obi Emekekwue,   said this at a Media Workshop on “Intra-African Trade,  Business and Financial Reporting” in Casablanca, Morocco.

Emekekwue said that innovation was the only way to survive in a dynamic world today.

“Today’s world is dynamic and to survive,  you need to be innovative and this is the reality.

“As a journalist, you have to adopt other ways of constantly expanding your reach,” he said.

Mr John Chiahemen, Media and Communication Consultant,  NiceView Media, urged media practitioners to engage in human angle stories rather than focusing on figures alone.

“People are tired of statistics and want to really focus on the story.

“Journalists should devise ways of telling stories that people will be interested in reading.

” We have to explore every possible way to keep ourselves at the centre of news and the news must be relevant to the people,” he said.

Chiahemen urged the media to ensure interesting headlines and engaging photos in reportage as it was the thrust of what would sell stories.

The media practitioners were drawn from different countries in African.
