Ministry to take anti-tetanus vaccination to villages in Rivers

The Rivers Health Ministry is taking the ongoing anti-tetanus vaccination programme to rural communities in the state.

Coordinator, Behavioural Change and Communication in the ministry, Dr Doris Nria,  made this known while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

She said that the state government had made arrangement to provide transport facilities for service providers posted to the hinterlands of the state.

“The programme is running concurrently in all the local government areas. We are prepared to ensure that it gets to the remotest parts of the state.

“The workers have been properly trained to function effectively. The overall intention is to ensure that the people are reached,’’ Nria said.

She said that the health programme was very crucial in the prevention of tetanus infection.

Nria urged the people to make use of the opportunity.

She called on Rivers residents in both urban and rural areas to avail themselves of the ongoing health programme to get vaccinated.

The  programme, tagged: “Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week (MNCHW)’’ is a maternal neo-natal tetanus elimination campaign.

The programme which kicked off on Nov. 19 was targeted at reaching no fewer than 1.3 million persons.
