SEMA donates relief materials to fire victims in Kaduna

The Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on Wednesday donated relief materials to the victims of a fire  that affected 17 shops at Abubakar Gumi Market, Kaduna.

The agency’s Executive Secretary, Ben Kure, who made the presentation explained that the materials were meant for the victims of the recent fire disaster that occurred in the market.

Kure was represented by the agency’s Director of Administration and Finance, Abubakar Ibrahim.

The materials include: bags of cement, bundles of roofing sheets, bags of 3-inch nails and packets of zinc nails.

‎“SEMA provided the relief materials based on its assessment of the extent of damage in the affected areas,” he said.

Kure who expressed the state government’s sympathy to the victims, prayed that God should avert such incidents in future.

“We sympathise with the victims and families of all those who had been affected by the fire disaster,” he said.

The market leader, Aminu Umar, who received the materials on behalf of the victims, commended the state government for the intervention.

“We thank SEMA for the relief materials and we are appealing for more support and assistance for us to return to business,” he said.

Umar assured the agency that the materials would be distributed to the victims.

He called on the state government to use its channels of communication to educate the residents on how they could handle fire especially during the dry season.
