OPC remains united and not in disarray – Official

By Olaleke ASHAFA

The National Publicity Secretary, Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Oluyinka Oguntimehin,  on Friday, said the organisation was not in disarray as speculated in the social media.

Oguntimehin said that OPC was an organisation with a central command with instructions flowing from the top echelon of the organisation down to the zones.

He said the organisation no longer had leadership tussle between the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, Gani Adams and late founder of the Oodua Peoples Congress, Dr  Fredrick Fasehun even before his death.

“OPC led by Dr Gani Adams is not in disarray, there is no problem with OPC.

” There was a dispute between Dr Gani Adams and Dr Fredrick Fasehun in the past, but this has long been settled by the former Ogun governor, Gbenga Daniel in 2005.

“The fallout of that settlement was that Fasehun was made the spiritual father of OPC while Adams emerged as the national coordinator.

“After that settlement till the demise of Fasehun, there was no dispute between them and they communicated regularly,” he said.

Oguntimehin commiserated with the family of the deceased, describing him as a consummated human rights activist, whose life was dedicated to the struggle for the rights and emancipation of the people.

“Dr Fasehun’s demise is indeed a sad one, a great loss to both Yoruba land and the country at large.

May his soul rest in peace,” he said.

The late founder of OPC, Fasehun, died on Dec. 1 at the age of 83.
