Group seeks support for education sector

By Kunle SHONUGA

The Abuja branch of Immaculate Heart Girls Secondary School, (IMMAHACO) Aba, Old Girls Association, has called on government and other stakeholders in the education sector on the urgent need to improve standard of  education.

The Acting President of the body, Mrs Stella Akawari, made the call on Sunday in Abuja.

It was on the sideline of the association’s 2018 end of the year party in Abuja.

Akawari also stressed the need for wealthy Nigerians and organsations to support the sector.

“The government is always there doing its part, but we have to do ours; the Catholic Church is doing well too, but we have to add to their efforts.

“Let all old boys and girls of all the schools in the country get up to rebuild infrastructure for the sake of the next generation,” she said.

Comparing the present equality of education to what was obtainable in the 80s, Akawari said there was need to improve the system for the benefit of future generations.

Akawari urged the young generations to be focused and remain committed to hard work for a bright future.

The acting president said that IMMAHACO would in June 2019, hold it’s general convention in Abuja where old girls would deliberate on projects to be implemented in the school.

According to her, the idea is geared toward enhancing infrastructure facilities in the school.

“It is all about giving back to our school.

“If not for the Immaculate Heart school, where would we be?

“Our exposure, our direction in life and where we are today is all about the school.

“Now that we are grown and can afford it, we need to give back to the school to supports our sisters coming behind.

“This will help give them a sense of direction in life.

“Some of us today are Senators, House of Reps.members, medical doctors, principals lawyers and successful business owners,” she stressed.
