Bayelsa Tanker accident: FRSC evacuates wreckage, restores traffic flow

By Thompson abisola

The Bayelsa Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it has cleared the wreckage following Sunday’s petrol tanker collision with four tricycles and a Toyota Hilux on Mbiama-Yenagoa Expressway.

Bayelsa Sector Commander, Mr Ikechukwu Igwe, said on Monday that FRSC had restored normal traffic flow on theexpressway where the accident had caused traffic hiccups.

Igwe said that no death was recorded in the incident and commended other security agencies and the fire service for the collaboration that led to the successful handling of the accident.

He said that prompt steps were taken to stop the leakage of petrol from the ill-fated tanker as the product was transloaded.

Four persons were critically injured in the accident.

On scooping of petrol by residents, Igwe explained that the joint efforts of the FRSC and policemen deployed to the accident scene checked the scooping of leaked product.

According to him, the security agencies have anticipated that scooping could cause more danger to lives and property and prevented it.

Igwe said that the tanker had lost control due to brake failure and hit the four tricycles and a Toyota Hilux vehicle.

“Right now, the product has been transloaded to another tanker, the area is safe; our men have gone out to ensure that the tanker was removed.

“So there is no death, those that are injured are in the hospital and are responding to treatment,” the commander said.
