Electricity consumers urge KAEDCO to stop estimated billing system in Zamfara

By Aliyu DANLADI

Electricity consumers in Zamfara on Thursday urged Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) to stop the current estimated billing system.

In a forum organised by KAEDO Regional Office in Gusau, the customers, instead, called for headcount to enable it recover the N3 billion owed it in the state.

The company had on Thursday last week announced that customers in the state owed the company over N3 billion.

Speaking on the occasion, a customer, Malam Manir Nasiru of Unguwar Shadow, identified estimated billings and illegal connection as the major problems prevailing in the state.

He said the company should conduct the headcount with the help of community leaders to end illegal consumption, adding that conducting the exercise would encourage genuine customers to pay their bills promptly.

He said it was important for the company to be fair to every customer as that would encourage them to pay their bills.

Nasiru also said that the headcount would help the company in charging its customers appropriately.

In his remarks, Malam Sabo Abdul, KAEDCO Business Development and Relationship Officer, said the company would adopt community-based approach to enhance its relationship with customers.

He assured that KAEDCO would protect the right of customers without compromising its interest.

Customers, traditional and religious leaders and security agents attended the forum.
