Ajah residents want speedy completion of road projects

By Giwa SHILE

Residents of Ajah Community, Lagos in Lagos state, have expressed concern over the non completion of road construction projects in the area, saying that the development was causing gridlock .

They expressed the concern in Lagos on Wednesday.

Business owners also said that the road projects, which they said appeared to have been abandoned, were affecting patronage of their businesses, adding that the roads leading to their business outlets had become almost impassable.

Motorists also lamented over the worsen state of the road projects which they said caused damage to their vehicles.

A shop owner, Mrs Fatia Lawal, also lamented that the deplorable nature of roads in the community, adding that bad roads had been affecting her sales.

“These roads have become worse than they were initially,“she said.

A driver, Mr Isiah Thompson, said that the reason for the incessant hold up on the Lekki-Ajah Expressway was due to the fact that the vehicles could no more maneuver to the inner roads under construction.

According to him, some of the roads are at the stage that they cannot be used by motorists.

He identified the major roads and streets, where construction had stopped, as Thomas Estate link road, Badore road, Langbasa road, Ajah bridge link road, Terminal bus stop by Ajah bridge side, among others.

Mrs Nkechi Nwachukwu, a business woman, urged the state government to intensify efforts in completing the roads, noting that the projects were 80 per cent completed.

“The Gov. Ambode-led administration has really done well in the area of infrastructure development across Lagos State but needs to do more.

“The present administration should use the remaining months in office to complete ongoing projects across the state.

“The era of abandoned projects should be a thing of the past. Government should ensure completion of the projects before leaving office, ‘’ he said.

Nwachukwu said that residents had written several letters to government and LAMASA in charge of road projects to complete the projects, awaiting response.

” The state government should complete the Terminal bus stop at Ajah by the bridge side in order to ease the suffering of motorists and boost business patronage in that axis,” she said.
