NAN Correspondent, NUJ chairman bags FIWON award

Mr Joshua Oladipo, a Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Osun, on Thursday bagged 2019 Federation of Informal Workers Organisation (FIWON) award of excellence.

Oladipo was awarded for his immense contributions through fair and balanced reportage on issues affecting the informal sector in the state.

Mr Kehinde Ayantunji, the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and Mr Ismail Alagbada, a former Commerce and Industry Commissioner, also bagged award of excellence for their contributions to the sector.

NAN reports that the award ceremony was on the sideline of the inauguration of FIWON Tax Advocacy Group (FITAG) held in Osogbo.

In his remarks, Mr Ibrahim Olayinka, FIWON State Coordinator, commended the awardees for their support towards the growth of informal sector in the state.

Olayinka praised NAN reporters for effective and balanced reportage of the informal sector and other activities in the state.

He also commended the State Government for empowering his members including issuance of loans and grants, and urged the informal sector workers to pay their taxes promptly, to reciprocate the gesture.

In his acceptance speech, Oladipo commended FIWON for counting him worthy of the honour, adding that NAN would continue to be objective and balanced in its reports.

He also thanked the NAN management for the support given him to excel in his career.

Also, Ayantunji, the state NUJ chairman, appreciated the award and pledged that journalists in the state would continue to be upright in their reportage.

Similarly, Alagbada, thanked the group for the award, noting that it remained an important economic group, as informal workers constitute more than 60 per cent of productive population in the state.
