Tourism continues to boom in Germany

By Meletus EZE

The German tourism got off to a strong start in 2019, with the number of overnight stays rising to 26.3 million in January, the Federal Statistical Office reported on Friday.

The office said that the figure went up three per cent of the same month in 2018.

Domestic overnight stays rose three per cent to 21.2 million as overnight stays by foreign tourists rose by the same percentage to 5.1 million.

In 2018, the tourism sector posted its ninth record in a row.

Predictions for this year from the Dehoga hospitality association of hotels and restaurants are for a further rise by between 1 and 1.5 per cent.

The statistics are based on accommodation offering no less than 10 beds.——DPA
