By Kunle SHONUGA

A team from the Mideast Aviation Academy (MAA), Jordan, has arrived Nigeria to recruit 50 students to be trained as pilots in the academy.

TBI Africa said that the General Manager of the academy, Rakan Al Quran, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Friday.
He said the decision to come to the country followed the training of 100 pilots by the academy who were sponsored by the Kano State Government during the administration of former governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso in 2014.
“We trained 100 students as pilots who were sponsored by Kano State Government and they have since graduated from the Academy,’’ he said.
Al Quran said during the recruitment exercise, the candidates were expected to undergo medical screening to ascertain their health status as well as their suitability for flying.
In addition, he said, the academy also offers aircraft maintenance engineering courses to enable graduates become licenced aircraft maintenance engineers and/or technicians
“The training of pilot is between 18 months and 24 months while training of aircraft maintenance engineers covers 30 months period,’’ he said.
The general manager said graduates of the academy have the opportunity of a high employability rate as their career path is tailored towards becoming licenced aircraft maintenance engineers.
“MAA graduates may also work with Airline engineering departments or support Aircraft maintenance organisations while working in the industry.
According to him, the graduates of the academy also have the option of enrolling into a relevant engineering bachelor programme.
Al Quran said a candidate seeking admission into the institution must be 18 years minimum from a recognised and officially certified secondary school certificate or equivalent.
“Entrants must have third class medical test certificate in addition to achieving acceptable level in each component of the English examination (reading, writing, listening and speaking),” he added.
