By Kunle SHONUGA

A monarch in Ajara Agamathen Kingdom, Aholu Agano Toniyon 1, on Monday urged contractors handling the Lagos-Badagry Expressway to fast track construction work on the road.

He gave the advice during a prayer session to mark the first year anniversary of his coronation in Ajara Kingdom, a community within Badagry.

“We thank God that the Federal Government has approved the construction of the road since November, 2018.

“It is disheartening to know that since contractors handling the project began work in November, the work has been rather slow.

“The road is not to empower Badagry residents alone, but every Nigerian who plies the road.

“Some foreign investors visited my palace in 2018 because they wanted to invest in my town, but they were disappointed with the deplorable state of the road.

“The lamented on the state of the road and how they wasted five hours on the road, and asked if they should go back to Lagos with ferry.

“This is to tell you that they are not comfortable with the road. So, after departure, they did not show up again. This is so unfortunate,” the monarch said.

He appealed to the contractors on the road to expedite their work so that the project could be completed at the appropriate time.

Toniyon also urged the Lagos State Government to complete the abandoned bridge linking the community with Panko Town, a neighbouring community.

He said that Panko indigenes are farmers, and the bridge would ease transportation between the two communities.

The royal father said that part of activities to mark his one year coronation anniversary include homage to his palace by Community Development Associations, Traditional and Honorary Chiefs and Market leaders on Tuesday.

“On Wednesday, there will be free medical service for all and sundry in my palace and the final of Aholu Agano Football Tournament will take place on Thursday.

“There will be a special Jumat Service on Friday and installation of new Baale and Chiefs on Saturday, while the grand finale will take place on Sunday,” he said.

TBI Africa said that the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Toniyon 1 is among the three traditional leaders in Ajara kingdom that was upgraded to the level of Oba by the administration of Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode in 2018.

NAN also reports that the first year coronation anniversary prayer was led by Pastor Sunday Hunyinbo, the Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Badagry Chapter and Sheik Zwkifuli Bamgbola, a Muslim leader in Badagry.====NAN
