Bayelsa Command of NSCDC ejects illegal occupants at defunct Nitel premises

By Meletus EZE

The Bayelsa Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Wednesday restated its commitment to its core mandate to protect critical national assets.

Mr Pedro Ideba Pedro, Commandant of the NSCDC in Bayelsa, restated the commitment when he led officers and men of the command to evict some illegal occupants at the defunct NITEL building in Yenagoa.

Ideba noted that it was the core mandate of the NSCDC to protect the Federal Government’s infrastructure throughout the federation.

He explained that the illegal occupants of the building had vandalised the property and two persons allegedly made themselves landlords.

He said that the self-acclaimed landlords collected rents from the occupants and other residents who used the property as car parks and equally paid monthly rent to the landlords.

Ideba added that such building had been used as hide outs for criminals.

The commandants said that the corps would go after other government properties being occupied illegally and ensure that the occupants were evicted.

TBI Africa said NAN reports that no fewer than 50 illegal occupants were ejected from the building.
