Scavenger bags 5 months imprisonment for assault, criminal trespass

A Sharia Court ll at Magajin Gari, Kaduna,  on Monday sentenced an 18-year old scavenger, Auwal Jubril, to five months imprisonment for assault and criminal trespass.

Jubril, who resides at No. P18, Igabi road, Tudun Wada, Kaduna, was arraigned for burgling a building and injuring a security man with a knife.

The Judge, Musa Sa’ad-goma, sentenced him to five months imprisonment with an option of N5,000 fine for each of the offences.

He also ordered the convict to pay N10,000 for the treatment of the complainant.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Aliyu Ibrahim, told the court that the matter was reported at the Magajin Gari Divisional Police Station, Kaduna, by one Ibrahim Haruna of No. 2, Oriapata, Kaduna, on April 21.

Ibrahim alleged that Jubril burgled into the complainant’s building at about 6:00 a.m., attempted to steal and in the process injured the complainant with a knife on his left palm.

He said that the offence contravened the Kaduna State Sharia Penal Code Law 2002.

The convict, however, pleaded guilty.
