Lagos deputy governor-elect takes oath of office

A former Commissioner for Works in Lagos, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, has been inaugurated as the new deputy-governor of the state.

Hamzat took the oath of office at a well-attended ceremony on Wednesday in Lagos, where the governor-elect, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, would also be inaugurated as the new governor.

TBI Africa said the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the oath was administered by the state High Court Registrar, Mrs Taiwo Olatokun.

Hamzat, joined by his wife, Oluremi, acknowledged cheers from excited party faithful and other dignitaries immediately after the administration of the oath.

NAN reports that Hamzat was Special Adviser to the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, before his election and eventual inauguration.

The new deputy governor is a Systems Engineer and he was an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant before he stepped down for Sanwo-Olu.

NAN reports that Sanwo-Olu was about to be sworn in as of the time of this report.
