The Association of Power Generation Companies (APGC), has called on the Federal Government to formulate stronger policies to address challenges facing the power sector.
Dr Joy Ogaji, the Executive Secretary of APGC said this in Abuja on Sunday, that there was also the need for political will to ensure the implementation of viable policies in tackling problems in the sector.
She said that it was necessary to have a formal mechanism and framework for increased stakeholders participation with regards to policy design, implementation and regulation of the power sector.
According to her, without a strong political will, no meaningful development will be achieved.
“One pivotal solution is political will, when there is no political will then nothing will happen in that sector.
“If there is a political will and the President gives the power sector three months ultimatum to solve the problems, you will see what is going to happen.
“All agencies in the sector will be meeting day and night trying to find solution, because we all know what the solutions are but there is no political will, ‘’ she said.
Ogaji said that strong and experienced leadership was also necessary to bring about best industry practices needed to accelerate progress in providing stable and affordable power to consumers.
She said that effective collaboration and coordination across interrelated ministries related to the power sector was critical to bringing key inputs that would help accelerate the growth of the industry.
“This is needed to ensure enhanced transparency and ownership of the policy making process and outcomes.”
Ogaji said that APGC was set up to promote the interest of its members in order to promote competition.
She said that the association provides regulatory and policy understanding of the market to its members so they could embark on more efficient operations in their businesses.
