South African consumer inflation flat 4.5% in June

South Africa’s headline consumer inflation remained steady at 4.5 per cent year-on-year in June, unchanged from the May figure, data from Statistics South Africa showed on Wednesday.

On a month-on-month basis, prices inched up 0.4 per cent from a 0.3 per cent increase previously.

Core inflation – which excludes the prices of food, non-alcoholic beverages, petrol and energy – was at 4.3 per cent year-on-year versus a 4.1 per cent increase in May, and 0.4 per cent month on month compared to a rate of 0.0 per cent last month.
