Association urges retirees to beware of scammers

The Association of Heads of Federal Government Establishments, Rivers chapter, on Wednesday urged retirees to beware of scammers who would introduce them to business proposals after retirement to dupe them financially.

Retired Capt. Tam Ambie-Barango of the Nigerian Navy, gave the advice during the mid-year send off for retirees and transferees of the association in Port Harcourt.

Association of Heads of Federal Government Establishments, Rivers chapter, involves all the heads of federal government establishments in the state, and once a head of establishment is posted to Rivers, he automatically becomes a member.

Ambie-Barango, who chaired the event, advised retirees to be careful not to go into the hands of fraudsters as they retire from service.

“Proposals will come to you, some are mouth-watering proposals, wash your face very well, make a second opinion before choosing what to invest in to make sure you will not be scammed.

“Invest well and live well to enjoy your retirement,’’ Ambie-Barango, is also the State Manager Rivers/IMO Defence Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO) for the Armed Forces under National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Similarly, the State Chairman of the association, MrBolouOwonaro, who is the State Director, Federal Character Commission in Rivers, also advised the retirees to put in practice all the experiences and resources they acquired during the service to good use.

Owonaro urged the transferred to continue with their effective and selfless service to the state where they were posted.

Also, Dr Jonas Emechebe, the South-South Zonal Director of Federal Radio Corporation Nigeria (FRCN), urged retirees to maximise the activities they engaged in during their leave while in service when they retire.

Emechebe advised members who were still in service to start investing and planning for what to do before the date of their retirement.
