India govt. launches steel import monitoring system

Indian Government on Monday launched a Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS), in New Delhi, an official statement said.

The system had been developed on the pattern of U.S. Steel Import Monitoring and Analysis (SIMA) system.

According to the statement, the SIMS will provide advance information about steel imports to government and stake-holders including steel industry (producers), steel consumers (importers) to have effective policy interventions.

However, the importers of specified steel products would register in advance on the web portal of SIMS providing the necessary information.

The registration would be online, automatic and no human intervention required for this.

The SIMS would be effective from Nov. 1, and the facility of the online registration would be available with effect from Sept. 16
