Average price for 5kg cooking gas drops in August- NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), says the average price to refill 5kg cylinder for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas), decreased by N2,000.34 in August 2019 from N2,024.80 in July.

The bureau said this in its “Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) Price Watch’’ for August obtained from its website on Tuesday in Abuja.

It said that the decrease was by -1.21 per cent month-on-month and by -2.62 per cent year-on-year.

According to the report, states with the highest average price to refill a 5kg cylinder for cooking gas are Adamawa (N2,488.75), Bauchi (N2,468.89) and Borno (N2,391.07).

It added that states with the lowest average price for the refilling of a five kg cylinder for cooking gas were Osun (N1,694.44), Enugu (N1,718.05) and Abuja (N1,739.17).

“Similarly, average price for the refilling of a 12.5 kg cylinder for cooking gas increased by 0.09 per cent month-on-month and decreased by -3.35 per cent year-on-year to N4,220.11 in August 2019 from N4,216.29 in July.

“States with the highest average price for the refilling of a 12.5 kg cylinder for cooking gas were Akwa Ibom (N4,648.61), Benue (N4,625) and Enugu (N4,586.09).

“States with the lowest average price for the refilling of a 12.5 kg cylinder for cooking gas were Kano (N3,800), Lagos (N3,845.33) and Oyo (N3,872.45).”

The NBS said the various prices were collected across all the 774 local governments across all states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), from more than 10,000 respondents and locations.

The NBS said its audit team subsequently conducted randomly selected verification of prices recorded.
