NAMA takes delivery of Cat 3 ILS for Lagos, Abuja Airports

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) says it has taken delivery of consignments of equipment for category three Instrument Landing Systems/Distance Measuring Equipment (ILS/DME) for Lagos and Abuja Airports.

The NAMA Managing Director, Capt. Fola Akinkuotu, made this known on Tuesday in Lagos.

Akinkuotu said the consignments, cleared over the weekend from the Apapa Wharf, were already at the premises of the agency in Lagos.

He said that the installation of the landing aids would commence soon.

According to Akinkuotu, the move was part of the agency’s effort to ensure that aircraft land in adverse weather condition, especially during harmattan.

He also said that the second phase of the project, involving the installation of ILS/DME in Kano, Port Harcourt and Katsina Airports, would commence as soon as Lagos and Abuja installations were completed.

Akinkuotun, in a statement issued by Mr Khalid Emele, the General Manager, Public Affairs, said that the choice of these airports was informed by the severe weather conditions prevalent in them.
