EKEDC unveils mega cable fault locator equipment

Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) had on Wednesday unveiled it’s newly acquired state of the art Cable Fault Locator Equipment, to reduce the time expended on identifying exact fault location in the 11KV/33KV underground cable network.

The Cable fault locator System which comprises a tripartite compartment including a High Voltage Surge Generator, Time Domain Reflectometer and Phone Acoustic Pinpointer is expected to accelerate EKEDC’s response time to a detected fault and ensure swift restoration of supply.

At the unveiling ceremony the Chief Financial Officer, Mr Joseph Esenwa described the acquisition of the Cable Fault Locator as a demonstration of EKEDC’s commitment to enhance its distribution infrastructure and improve service delivery within its coverage area.

He noted that the introduction of the equipment also underscores EKEDC’s devotion to consistently improve its processes, procedures and operation through innovation and deployment of technology.

In his own reaction, the General Manager Operation and Maintenance department, Engr Adewunmi Adeyinka disclosed that the Cable Fault Locator Equipment will ensure steady, stable and dependable supply within the EKEDC distribution network.

He added that the equipment will also monitor and maintain efficiency across the underground cable network.

Megger is the German-based company that manufactured and supplied the equipment. It’s Regional Sales Manager Adeola Adebomi noted that in addition to the Supervisory Control and Data acquisition SCADA, the Cable Fault Locator System will ensure that faults are not only detected but can be speedily identified and addressed.

He listed that among another advantage that the Cable Fault Locator System will confer on EKEDC is the reliability of supply, which will prevent revenue loss and ensure increased revenue generation.

He noted that aside from the supply and installation of the equipment, his Company is also offering hands-on training to EKEDC staff specifically those from the protection and Testing Unit to build their capacity and competence on the effective and optimal use of the equipment.
