Total reaffirms support to education sector devolopment
Total Upstream Nigeria Ltd., has reaffirmed its commitment to support quality education and contribute to the growth of the sector through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)initiatives.
Its Managing Director, Mr Mike Sangster gave the assurance in Lagos when the company donated 1,000 science textbooks and 16 computers to two secondary schools that benefited among the few selected.
The two schools that benefited from the donations were Goldenline Schools, Lekki and Ikeja Senior Grammar School, Oshodi.
The various texbooks donated were for physics, chemistry, biology teatbooks as well as Oxford English dictonaries, among others.
Sangster, who was represented by Mr Azu Azuike, CSR Education, said the donation was in collaboration with the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
According to him, the company provided the learning materials to the schools in recognition that learning materials is of topmost importance to students.
He emphasised the importance of education to the students, saying ”it is the quality of education they receive that determines their contributions to national development in future”.
Sangster said:”We believe in giving back to the society where we operate. One of the ways we do that is through our support to the education sector. Education is the best legacy that could be given to any child.
“We are happy to be with the schools as part of those that benefited from the company’s CSR initiatives.
“The purpose of the donation is to see positive development in the students’ performance in terms of their studies.
“We will send our monitoring and evaluation team from time to time to the schools to see how the materials are being used.”
Also, Dr Charles Ngeribara, CSR Adviser, Total Upstream Nigeria Ltd., urged the students to make use of the textbooks judiciously.
Ngeribara enjoined the students to ensure that they put in their best and come up with good grades.
The principal of Goldenline Schools, Mr James Nsan thanked the managent of the company for the gesture extended toward the school.
Nsan said the support would remain indelible in the minds of the students, while promising that the textbooks and computers would be used as expected of them.
Mr Sunday Faniyi, Vice Principal of Ikeja High Grammar School, Oshodi also thanked the company for the educational items.
Faniyi said the management team of the school were impressed adding that the donation would assist the school in improving its standard.
