44 migrants disembark in Malta

Some 40 migrants were brought to Malta on Monday morning following a transfer from the NGO vessel Open Arms to a patrol boat of the Armed Forces of Malta.

The group was brought to Malta and disembarked at the Armed Forces naval base in Hay Wharf, Floriana.

The 44 migrants include 13 minors and two women, one of whom is pregnant, according to Times of Malta.

They were picked up by a rescue ship operated by Open Arms on Saturday night after being alerted by migrant hotline Alarm Phone of a wooden boat in distress.

The migrants were rescued from a dinghy in the Maltese search-and-rescue region.
