Association advocates effective e-governance policy implementation

Mr Gbenga Adebayo, Chairman, Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has advised the Federal Government to ensure effective implementation of the e-governance policy as a reform tool to boost public service delivery.

Adebayo, who gave the advice in an interview with the in Lagos on Monday, said the policy would make Nigeria join the comity of developed nations, if well implemented.

He said: “Without e-governance, we cannot have the kind of efficiency we are looking for in government.

“The earlier we embrace it as part of our policy and ground rule, the better we are as a country.

“There is no country today that can function without the right instrument of ICT; and with its right usage. So, e-governance is what we must embrace in our daily lives.

He advised people to use minimal human interface, stationary and papers as well as take advantage of the availability of 24/7 e-services for more efficiency.

Adebayo also said government must be specific on its policy on e-governance with a time-frame to implement it.

“The e-governance policy must not be left open-ended. The earlier we come up with the government position on what we want to do the better.

“I am happy we now have a Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, the only way to go is to begin to have clear digital road map with specific time-frame and milestone.“
