Human Trafficking: NAPTIP to scale-up awareness, enlightenment activities in 2020

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), says it has concluded plans to scale-up awareness and enlightenment activities round the year and across the country.

Mrs Julie Okah-Donli, the Director-General of the agency, made this known on Friday in Abuja while reacting to the high rate of human trafficking recently in the country.

The DG, who spoke through her Media Officer, Vincent Adekoye in the Press and Public Relations Department of the agency, said that the awareness and enlightenment campaign would get to the grassroots, especially villages and communities.

She said that apart from targeting the endemic communities and vulnerable groups, the agency would introduce a one-on-one pattern campaign, where a person would be enlightened and expected to in turn enlighten others.

She said that the agency would also be going to schools, alongside community town halls for campaign and community dialogue.

“We will not leave anybody in doubt because we believe that prevention is always better than cure, we have already started the enlightenment even as I am talking to you now.

“Our officers are everywhere, South East, South South, the North, the West, in fact anywhere we can find human beings.

“We have discovered that no state is exempted, all the states of the federation are endemic; so, we are moving ahead of the traffickers before they get to the villages,” she said.

Okah-Donli said that the agency would also be setting up a vigilante group to watch over the communities; adding that they would serve as advocate for the agency.
