Buhari taps highly skilled maritime insider as next Director-General Of NIMASA

Barring any last minute maneuvers, President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to name Dr. Bashir Jamoh, as new Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), according to at least two authoritative sources familiar with matter.

He replaces Dr. Dakuku Peterside whose tenure expires on March 10, 2020.

The  sources who asked not to be named in this report said the President will also name a new management for the agency.

Jamoh, a highly experienced and well-grounded maritime expert, is presently the Executive Director in charge of Finance and Administration of the agency.

“The President is insisting on competence and capacity in the next appointments into NIMASA and wants to enhance maritime security especially at the key Gulf of Guinea,” one of the sources said.

Jamoh has over 32 years of both professional and technical experience in the maritime sector. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Port Harcourt, specializing in Logistics and Transport Management.

He also has a Masters Degree in Management from Korea Maritime and Ocean University, Post Graduate Diploma in Management Sciences from Bayero University Kano and a Diploma in Accounting from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, respectively.

A formal announcement is expected any time this week, the sources said.
