Coronavirus: Major markets remain shut in Ile-Ife

In compliance with the Osun government’s directive aimed at curtailing the spread ofthe coronavirus, major markets in Ile-Ife have remained shut.

A correspondent, who went round the markets on Friday, reports that there was full compliance with the government’s directive.

One of the traders, who owns a shop at Odo-Ogbe New Market in Ile-Ife, Mrs Bisi Onabanjo, commended the state and federal governments on their efforts to fight the epidemic.

Onabanjo said that the state government took the right decision by asking all residents to stay at home for now.

Mr Chidoke Chudi, who sells  foodstuff at Better Life Market, Modakeke, on his part, appealed to all marketmen and women to support government in implementing the directives, saying the stay-at-home directive was only for a while.

He urged fellow traders to play safe and cooperate with the government.

“The Nigerian government is trying its best to ensure safety of the citizens, for health is wealth.

” Therefore, we should try to obey all directives laid down by federal and state governments to check the spread coronavirus,” he said.

Other major markets shut down are Itakogun, Ojaafe, Fowobaje, Sasa and Apollo in Ile-Ife, while Better Life and Adedoyin are in Modakeke-Ife.

Policemen  were on ground monitoring compliance at the markets.
