Lockdown: Petrol distributors laud FG over reduction in diesel, kerosene pump price

The Association of Distributors and Transporters of Petroleum Products (ADTOP), has commended the Federal Government for the reduction in the pump price of diesel and kerosene in the country.

Bashir Dan-Malam, the Zonal Chairman of the association, made the commendation while inspecting the distribution of petroleum products at the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Depot, on Friday in Kano.

It will be recalled that the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC) had last week announced reduction of the price of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) popularly called diesel from N178 to N155 per litre.

It also reduced the price of kerosene, Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK) from N185 to N160 per litre.

Dan-Malam described the gesture as a welcome development, saying it is geared to alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians due to the lockdown occasioned by the Coronavirus pandemic.

He added that the gesture would go a long way to push down prices of commodities and essential services during the Easter celebrations.

“ADTOP commends the Federal Government and the management of NNPC for reducing the prices of diesel and kerosene.

“The singular gesture is worthy of commendation by well-meaning Nigerians.

“This is because the effort is coming at a time our Christian brothers and sisters are preparing for Easter while the Muslim faithful are also preparing for the Ramadan Fast,” Dan-Malam said.

He called on private depot operators to emulate the gesture to reduce charges and contribute to alleviate the sufferings of the citizenry.

The chairman also called on traders to reduce prices of food items and essential commodities in view of the global economic crisis occasioned by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Dan-Malam further pledged support to government’s policies and programmes designed to contain spread of the pandemic as well as cushion its effect on social and economic well being of the people.

The chairman said the association would work in collaboration with NNPC and relevant agencies to ensure steady fuel supply in the country.
