1,100 Britons evacuated to UK

More Britons were evacuated on Tuesday by the British High Commission through a charter British Airways flight which took off from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

So far, 1, 100 British nationals had been evacuated to the UK in five flights in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

A statement from the Mission on Tuesday said the flights were made possible by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Transportation and Aviation, the Federal Capital Territory and Lagos State authorities.

The British High Commissioner, Catriona Laing, who was at the airport to see off her compatriots said, “I am delighted to be able to wave-off more flights from Nigeria returning stranded British nationals back to the UK.

“I’m very grateful to all the thousands of British travellers who have contacted us over the last few days for their patience and support to help us get to this moment.”
