Chairman of Seplat Petroleum Company Limited, Dr. A.B.C. Orjiako, at the weekend, sought synergy with Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki and its partners in Delta State to boost the economic prosperity of the states.
Orjiako, who stated this during visit to Obaseki and tour of the firm’s facilities in Edo and Delta states, thanked the governor for the cordial working relationship between the company and his government, noting that the company had continued to fulfill its corporate social responsibility (CSR) to its host community.
He extended his appreciation to the monarchs of the host communities of its operations in Edo and Delta states, including the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, HRM Mujakperuo Orhue I.
At Orhue’s palace, he sought more engagement of youths in the host communities in Delta state, particularly in the area of employment.
Also, Management of Seplat Petroleum Development Company said it had so far impacted 45,140 students under the company’s Pearls Quiz since its inception in 2012.
Its Chief Executive Officer, Roger Brown, disclosed this at the 2020 annual Pearls Quiz CSR programme in Benin City, saying the company introduced Seplat Teachers Empowerment Programme (STEM) to train teachers.
Brown, who was represented by General Manager, External Affairs and Communications, Chioma Nwachuku, said the initiative was designed to enhance academic performance and ensure that the Nigerian youths were well equipped to go into the workplace and be useful to society.
“So, this programme will target teachers and it is beginning next week. We are taking 100 teachers for a start and in six months, we will put them through how to teach in a way and manner that will better impact the students.
“We have impacted 45,140 students since 2012 and over 35 of them are in the universities. And two of them have benefited from our scholarship scheme in the university, while one of them has served the internship programme at Seplat,” Brown said.
At the end of the 2020 competition, St. Michael Academy, Benin City emerged winner of the pearls quiz competition and clinched the star prize of N7m.
The runner up, MC Nell secondary school, Delta State got N3m, while the third-place school, Gloryland Academy, Igarra received N1m.
St. Michael Academy scored 54 points to defeat MC Nell Secondary School, Delta State who scored 35 points.
