Caritas urges Nigerians to remain courageous, strong during difficult times

Caritas Nigeria, an NGO, on Sunday charged Nigerians to console one another, remain courageous and strong in the face of the current challenges in the country.

Rev. Fr Uchechukwu Obodoechina, Executive Secretary, Caritas Nigeria, gave the charge while distributing palliatives to the poor in Abuja, to mark the 2020 World Day of the Poor.

Obodoechina emphasised that this is the time to show love to and sacrifice for another person to be happy.

According to him, the kind of consolation that God requires of us is not a consolation of the lips but of the heart.

“We must look out for others and hold the weak by the hands and together cross these difficult times.

“Every one of us is poor in one way or the other, some are financially poor, some are poor spiritually some do not have a child, or are lacking one thing or the other.
“When you lack one thing you need so much; it means you are poor and you need another person to survive. So, we need each other and we must look out for each other,” he said.

Also, Rev. Fr Zachariah Samjumi, General Secretary, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), said that 2020 has been a very difficult year and we must stand in solidarity.

Samjumi stressed that we must share in our common humanity.

“We will do our possible best to hold each other by the hand and cross this turbulent moment.

“We pray that God opens our eyes to see those who are suffering so we can hold their hands and cross this turbulent moment together,” he said.

He, however, urged governments to do more for the people adding that their impacts were not being felt as they should.
