Keyamo, Sowore, other Nigerians mourn Gani Fawehinmi’s son

Nigerians have taken to social media to mourn Mohammed, the first child of the late activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Gani Fawehinmi.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that the 52-year-old passed on in Lagos on Wednesday.

Mohammed, a graduate of Business Administration of the University of Lagos in 1991, obtained an LLB degree from the University of Buckingham, England, and was called to Nigerian Bar in 1998.

He had a terrible accident in 2003 in Lagos which affected his spinal cord. He was the Head, Mohammed Fawehinmi’s Chambers, Director, amongst other organisations.

Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo (SAN), in a Facebook post, described Mohammed as “energetic and very intellectually alert”.

“My brother, friend and son of my late boss, Mohammed Fawehinmi, is gone. I am speechless and heartbroken. I just spoke with the eldest daughter Basirat and she confirmed it. Mohammed was energetic and very intellectually alert, despite his mishap. He kept the flame of his father burning. We will sorely miss him,” he wrote.

Ex-presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, wrote, “We lost brother Mohammed Fawehinmi this evening! Sad! Rest in Power!”

“The late Gani Fawehinmi son, Mohammed dies.. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace . Amen,” Joe Igbokwe stated also on Facebook.

Bukoladeremi Ladigbolu described the deceased as a “pleasant guy” and prayed to God to comfort the Fawehinmi family.

Akínropo Akinola also described the late Mohammed as a “great man” and prayed for divine comfort for the family.

Mohammed’s father, who died at the age of 71 in September 2009, was widely celebrated as a Nigerian social critic, human and civil rights activist, politician, author and philanthropist.

He was arrested and detained by the military regime at different times for speaking for the masses.
