PIA: Sylva, senators are Niger Delta problems, says ex-militants

EX-militants in the Niger Delta have described the Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, and senators from the oil rich region as the major cause of Niger Delta’s problem.

Specifically, they said the role played by the minister and the senators from Niger Delta, which gave backing to the President, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), in signing the Petroleum Industry Bill into law, was that of “selfish interest”.

The group operating under the auspices of the Urhobo-Isoko Youth Wing and Ex-agitators’ Leaders of Phase 1, 2, 3 of the Presidential Amnesty Programme vowed to make the Niger Delta unbearable until the President “sends back the bill (now PIA) to the National Assembly for an upward review of the three per cent for equity share among the host communities.

Speaking through their Chairman, Joseph Figbele and Vice Chairman, Solomon Adu, the group lamented what they tagged the ‘l don’t care’ attitude of both Sylva and Niger Delta senators responsible for the three per cent for the oil bearing communities because of their personal aggrandizement.
