Security experts have said the government should be committed to enhancing aviation security as this is essential to national security.
The Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, recently disclosed that N770.60bn had been allocated for the defence and the security agencies to address the challenge of insecurity in the country.
The experts, who spoke with our correspondent in separate interviews, said the government should prioritise airport security in its quest for national security in the country.
An aviation security consultant and member of Aviation Round Table, Group Capt. John Ojikutu (retd.), in an interview with our correspondent, said, “Aviation security is an element of national security. This is why aviation is always one of the topmost areas to be attacked by terrorists.
“A threat against aviation is a threat against the state. If there is any attack on aviation, it is an attack on the state. When terrorists want to draw attention to themselves, they attack airports, knowing that this would bring foreign attention to them.
Explaining what needed to be done in order to assess the risk and threats to aviation security, he said, “Threat assessment will determine what a country can do to strengthen its security.
“Aviation security is about identifying the threats against the state. Boko Haram is a threat against the state.
