World Teachers Day: Group calls for concerted support for teachers

The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), a police advocacy group, has called for concerted stakeholders’ support for teachers.

According to the group, this would enable them to deliver quality education.

The National Coordinator of POCACOV, CSP Ebere Amaraizu, made the call on Tuesday in Enugu when he spoke on the occasion of World Teachers Day.

The day is celebrated globally every October 5 as stipulated by UNESCO, an arm of the UN.

Amaraizu said that teachers needed to be supported for them to play their all-important role of remoulding and re-orientating their scholars.

According to him, the importance of teachers in our society cannot be over-emphasised as they are the bedrock of human social engineering.

“As they mark this important day, we at POCACOV having identified teachers as veritable partners of the POCACOV initiative join in celebrating them in view of their vital role in human capital development.

“Teachers remain a veritable and important element of self-discovery and value reorientation in the society.

“POCACOV congratulates all teachers even as the police initiative seeks self-discovery of young minds which is among its cardinal objectives,” he said.
