Buhari, others in Kaduna for Wushishi’s burial

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday led other eminent Nigerians for the burial of a former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Muhammadu Inuwa Wushishi, in Kaduna.

The burial of the ex-COAS followed combined military and Muslim ceremonies.

A statement in Abuja by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, said the body of the veteran, draped in the national flag and ushered into the cemetery by a military guard of honour comprising Generals, was lowered into the grave at 2 p.m.

President Buhari, who was represented by a delegation led by the Minister of Defence, Maj.-Gen. Bashir Magashi (retd.), expressed his condolences and those of the nation to the family of the late COAS as well as the government and people of Niger State through Governor Abubakar Sani Bello.

The President joined several other personalities   who paid tributes to the man he said strengthened Nigeria’s military’s support to civil authority under democracy, following many years of military rule. Speaking on behalf of the widow, Hajiya Kande and other members of the family, a former Head of State, General AbdulSalam Abubakar, expressed gratitude to the President for sending an important delegation for the burial.

The delegation included the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Zubairu Dada; the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya; Garba Shehu and the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mohammad Nami
