HURIWA wants Wabote suspended over graft allegations

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has charged President Muhammadu Buhari to suspend the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDM), Simbi Wabote, pending the conclusion of his alleged corruption investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

The group said it was against best practices for Wabote to remain in office while being accused of graft.

“The honourable thing to do is for him to resign or be suspended from office pending the end of the investigation of the allegations against him,” the organiasation noted.

HURIWA’s National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, at the press briefing, yesterday, in Abuja, said Nigeria has remained at the bottom of the global corruption perception index not because efforts are not being made by the current administration, but because basic elements of the rule of law and transparency are not observed.
