RATTAWU Lagos elects new chairman

Mr Ishola Adejumo of the Nigerian Television Authority Network has emerged Chairman of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU) Lagos State Chapter.

He emerged in an election held during RATTAWU’s Triennial Delegate Conference on Monday, at the National Theatre Compound in Lagos.

Adejumo won with 95 votes against his counterpart, the Immediate past acting Chairman of RATTAWU, Mr Shitta Sulaimon, of Voice of Nigeria Chapter, who had 75 votes.

Other winners include Vice Chairman, Mr Micah Dandy; Secretary, Mr Folahanmi Mohammed; Assistant Secretary, Mr Bimbo Oluyeye; Treasurer, Mr Habeeb Somotun; Financial Secretary, Mr Wale Sanusi; Auditor, Mr Ekundayo Omole, and Public Relations Officer, Mr Olajide Oloyede.

Earlier, the winner of the chairmanship position, Adejumo, said he was out with a clear mission to restore the lost glory of the union.

”I am out to reposition the union for more gains; to ensure that all our past leaders are recognised in the union —  their wealth of experience is very important to reposition the union for greater heights.

”These, we cannot do alone, and so we have come up with a formidable team, people who have proven track record of performance at their various chapter, to join me in lifting RATTAWU to a greater height.

”By coming onboard, we will offer a selfless service to the union by giving effective representation; giving a purposeful leadership; leadership that will stand up for membership at any time.

”I also believe that working with my team will promote collective responsibility in the union. Also, the welfare and the interest of members is very key, and so, good welfare package is priority. These and many more are our pledge,” he said.

He said that his leadership would be at the forefront of advocacy for better welfare and salary package for members of the union.

Adejumo said that his leadership would give timely comments and responses to national issues as it affected the general public.

”This is necessary because we are the hope of the masses; when the union is there for the masses, that is when the government will listen and respond,” he said the union was able to resolve some labour issues bordering on welfare of its members.

Sulaimon said, however, matters bordering on land still remained a burden on the union’s state council.

”We have been able to settle some chapters in the state, but others are yet to be resolved.

”However, ultimately, the issue will be resolved,” he said.
