Two die in ex-President Jonathan’s convoy crash

Two persons were yesterday reported dead in a crash involving the convoy of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

Jonathan was not in the entourage when the crash occurred on the way to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

Those involved in the accident were going to the airport to pick the former President, who was returning from an international assignment.

“They went to the airport to pick oga (principal) when the incident happened.  One other person is still  in the hospital receiving treatment,”  said a source close to Jonathan.

The former President and his wife, Patience, later visited those who sustained injuries at the emergency unit of the National Hospital, Abuja.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the death of the aides.

FRSC spokesman Bisi Kazeem said: “Two people died in the accident. It was the ex-President’s convoy that was involved but he was not in the car that had the accident.

A source at the National Hospital told The Nation that Jonathan and his wife “were not involved in the accident but two of his mobile policemen were the ones involved in the accident.”

“It was his pilot /convoy vehicles that were affected,” a source said.
