Ronaldo announces death of twin son

Cristiano Ronaldo has announced that his and Georgina Rodriguez’s new-born son has died.

Ronaldo and Rodriguez shared the news of their twin son’s passing in a joint statement posted to their social media accounts yesterday.

“It is with deep sadness we have to announce that our baby boy passed away,” Ronaldo and Rodriguez said in a joint statement on Instagram. “It is the greatest pain that any parent can feel.

“Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness,” they said.

Asking for privacy during this difficult time, the couple thanked the doctors and nurses for their expert care and support.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s sister Katia Aveiro has posted an emotional open letter to her brother on Instagram after the tragic death of his baby son.

“Our little angel is already on daddy’s lap,” wrote Katia, in reference to their father Dinis who died of liver failure in September 2005. She added: “I love you and my heart is with you over there. May God take care of you and strengthen your path more and more.

“Our little girl is there firm and strong and full of health and is going to show us with every day that only love matters.” Katia posted the message alongside pictures of Georgina and Cristiano with her two children.
