Power supply will increase by 2000 megawatts as the Federal Government of Nigeria Power Company and other stakeholders involved in the Presidential Power Initiative currently await the arrival of the first two energy transformers to be delivered by Siemens Energy.
A top industry source, who preferred not to be named, told The PUNCH on Monday that parties in the project, including the FGN Power Company, were committed to its delivery.
This, according to the source, would boost supply to households and businesses, thus enhancing productivity in the nation’s economy.
The Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu, had engaged Siemens’ executive management and Chief Executive Officer of the company, Christian Bruch, to expedite action on the manufacturing of the mobile equipment, given the global constraints on component parts and the Ukraine war.
Aliyu and the Minister of Finance/Board Chair, FGN Power Company, Zainab Ahmed, had also presented a memo to the Federal Executive Council requesting approval for the procurement of 10 power transformers and 10 mobile substations under the Presidential Power Initiative which was recently approved.

Checks showed that the first two energy transformers have been manufactured and will be delivered in September 2022 under a strategy for quick wins following the successful completion of the Factory Acceptance Tests.
Aliyu expressed his delight about the project as he stated that the the Factory Acceptance Tests were successful.
He said, “The transformers will contribute notably to resolving transmission/distribution interface issues in the power sector. Mr. President and the Federal Government remain committed to improving access to reliable electricity access to Nigerians.
“Also, I am confident that the Presidential Power Initiative will deliver on its objectives of providing electricity to households and businesses across the country.”
