Runway theft: FAAN redeploys MMIA airport manager

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has redeployed the Regional Airport Manager, South West Airports and Manager Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Mr Felix Akinbinu, to the Airfield Services Department.
His redeployment followed the theft of runaway approach lightings at the Murtala Mohammad Airport, Lagos.
In a memo signed by the Managing Director, FAAN, Mr Kabir Mohammed, announcing the redeployment of Akinbinu, he is to hand over to Mr Sunday Ayodele who was before, now General Manager Airfield services on or before July 14, 2023.
The PUNCH recently reported that unknown persons allegedly carted away the recently reinstalled airfield lighting systems at the domestic runway 18/36L of Murtala Muhammad Airport, which led to the suspension of some FAAN officials.
A source who spoke on condition of anonymity, stated that those who carted away the lighting systems took advantage of the closure of the runway for over three months.
