15-year-old girl electrocuted in Ogun State

A 15-year-old girl (name withheld) has been electrocuted in the Olomore Housing Estate in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
PUNCH Online learnt that the incident happened at around 11:50pm on Sunday when the girl was attempting to fetch water from a well in the estate.
The girl, it was learnt, had left to fetch water when there was no power supply in the compound.
However, power was said to have been restored while she was in the process of fetching the water.
The teenager was said to have been electrocuted by a naked cable of the pumping machine placed inside the well immediately power was restored.
Contacted for confirmation on Monday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said the girl was confirmed dead by a doctor on duty.
In a WhatsApp message sent to our correspondent, Odutola said, “A case of electrocution was reported to the Divisional Police Officer of Lafenwa by one Onyekachi Silas “m” at Olomore Housing Estate.
“Onyekachi narrated to the DPO that his younger brother, through a phone he received on that 31/3/24 at about 23:50, that one (name withheld) “f” 15 years, who is also the brother’s wife’s younger sister, is living with them.
“He further stated that there was a power outage in the house, and she went to the well to fetch water. In the process of her fetching water, power was restored. She was tragically electrocuted by a naked cable of the pumping machine placed inside the well.
“She was rushed to the hospital, where the doctor on duty confirmed her death. The investigation has commenced, and the corpse has been deposited at Oke Lantoro morgue.”
On November 7, 2023, an electrician at Unity Estate in Aregbe, the state capital, was electrocuted while helping his neighbour to fix an electrical fault.
There was an outage as of the time the electrician climbed the electrical pole, but while he was in the middle of the task, power was restored, leading to his electrocution.
